The new year is approaching, and we all know what that means. Resolutions. Before I continue, I just wanted to say congratulations. We have almost lived another 365 days.
So why do we participate in New Year’s resolutions? According to an article on History.com, new year resolutions have been around as early as 4000 years ago. So that makes resolutions a long-lasting tradition.
One of the more common resolutions I hear about revolves around weight management. Some examples of these are: starting a new diet plan, eating healthier, cutting unhealthy food item(s) out entirely, or starting new fitness habits. In the past, I had a few of these for my new year’s resolution. And like many, I failed to maintain them. Also, I know there are more resolutions than just weight management. I am only using this as an example.
However, why wait for the new year to be doing these things? Why would you wait to make any changes that benefit yourself or even those around you? It is one of the worst forms of procrastination, in my opinion. You could be doing these things today, tomorrow, or any time of the year. Also, do not forget that many people fail to maintain their new year resolution within the first two months, myself included. For those who do maintain, congratulations, keep it up. I am not saying that people should break tradition. I only think that people should not wait for the new year to start improving their quality of life or the lives of those around them.
In conclusion, if you want to change something in your life, do it today. Do not wait for the new year to make better changes or let that procrastination get in the way of your goals. Start improving your quality of life today.
