Data Programmer (the Scripting Typewriter)

I have been a data programmer for a decade now. In this business, there can be a lot of scripting involved. Of all the daily tasks, fixing and manipulating data is the best part of the day.

Several of my colleagues come to me with their scripting needs. That is how I became known as the “Scripting Typewriter”.

I am open to discussing new opportunities. If you are interested, let me know here.

Websites and Blogs

I have been blogging for a few years now. Since my college days, creating a website was always somewhere in the back of my mind. It wasn’t until coming across WordPress that I started becoming more involved. A part of me wishes that I came across it back in the day. Instead, my teacher focused on teaching us how to create pages manually(although still relevant to blogging) using HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Backtracking

I grew up in a small town in the central United States. The population at the time was less than 4,000, I believe. It was one of those places where almost everyone knew who you were if you lived there. Casey’s was the only gas station when I was younger. And by the time I started middle school, a Kwik Shop was built on the other side of town.

I have been a video gamer for as long as I can remember. I owned several consoles, beginning with the Atari. My favorite games include Final Fantasy, the Elder Scrolls series, Goldeneye 007, Legend of Zelda, Call of Duty, Guild Wars, Diablo, Minecraft, and RollerCoaster Tycoon. The list could go on and on, seriously.

In 2005, after enrolling in a technical school for computer programming, it turned out that many businesses did not need programmers in this city. Go figure.

I entered into fatherhood in 2008 when our son was born. As a new parent, I had no idea what to expect in the years to come. After having three more kids, I am sure to have plenty of stories and knowledge to share and entertain you.

And then in 2011, I realized that I needed to make a change in my life. So I decided to enlist in the National Guard as a culinary specialist. Inherently, fitness has always been a priority. They gave us the tools necessary to get in shape and stay that way. Learning to feed soldiers has given me plenty of information to share about food and cooking.

Present

First and foremost, I continue to support my family to the best of my ability. As I mentioned above, I’m working as a data programmer in a corporate setting.

My journey towards self-improvement and strengthening my weaknesses are daily endeavors.

I used to be a hardcore gamer, playing for five-plus hours without taking a break. If only Twitch was around back then. Writing has never really been my thing, but I have chosen to slow down on the gaming and find new outlets to spend my free time. This blog has become one of my new focuses.

The Future

In recent years I have been wanting to start my own business doing something different. What type of business, I do not know. What I do know is that other people are making a difference helping others while working for themselves and I would like to do the same.

We all know the future is uncertain, and I have not figured out what avenue to take at this time. In conclusion, I hope to discover my purpose in life. Sooner rather than later.
