Raw draft. No edits. Just today.
Woke up at 4:45am to the sound of a windy, rainy morning. A little bit of anxiety hit me because earlier this year, one of the trees in the yard fell on the neighbor’s house. Felt really bad about that. There is another tree right next to the one that had fallen that makes me worry every time we get high winds. I would hate for another tree to fall on their house. It is expensive to have someone cut the tree down, and funding to do so is not in the budget.
Made coffee for the first time this week. I probably needed it because I was up an hour earlier than I usually am. Could have made tea instead, but that is usually a drink I have in the evening.
Woke the kids up and ensured they were ready for school day. This is how the morning typically goes during the school year. It is usually a battle when it comes to the last minute things, like grabbing a coat or hoodie when the temperature is cooler, or making sure they brush their teeth before we walk out the door.
After dropping the kids off at school, it was time to start the work day. Every day is like the movie Groundhog Day for me. Get to work, do the same repetitive tasks. Some days will throw a curveball, but that only lasts for an hour or so. And then right back to it. Things have changed since I began working in this role; almost 12 years now. However, I feel like it is only a job, nothing I am passionate about.
After work, I returned home to do the tasks responsible adults/parents should be doing. Cooked dinner, cleaned up the dinner dishes, enjoyed the small amount of time left hanging out with my wife and the kids and hearing about their day went before putting the kids to bed. I think that is the highlight of my day; being at home with my family.
