I have hit a blogging crossroad. I have less than a year remaining with my current host. And I might choose not to renew.
Only a couple of my posts have been useful to people. And the rest go ignored. It may be my reliance of organic search traffic; Social media traffic was not anything I really wanted to rely on. I suspended my Facebook account years ago, and I only use Instagram for family and close friends.
I may have jumped the gun when I decided to go self hosted. I wasn’t much of a writer to begin with. At the time, it seemed like a good idea. And although I have had fun with the technical side of running a self hosted WordPress website, the writing ideas came far and few between.
Before signing up for a web host and going self hosted, I was a free user on WordPress.com. I feel like it was easier to be seen and heard by those who found relevance in my posts. I posted about the first garden I started as well as other topics; and they seemed to get more user interaction than on this self hosted site.
In the near future, I may be migrating my posts to a new free WordPress.com address and start setting up for the closing of this website. Or I may just keep everything backed up within my test environment on my computer and start over from scratch on a new blog.
Many bloggers do not succeed, and I will be among them. I know that my lack of writing discipline and drive to sustain a blogging schedule has led to this. But until I find that drive and motivation to write blog posts regularly, it will be more cost effective to become a free user at WordPress.com.
Whatever I choose to do, thank you for visiting and reading this post.
